WHO I AM
Walter Akpedeye
I’m the founder and CEO of MOW Designs, a Lagos based digital agency building websites and web apps for clients across Africa, Europe, and Asia since 2024.
I currently work as Product Manager and Digital and Social Media Lead at a real estate advisory firm, so I mentor from two seats: the builder’s seat and the product and strategy seat.
I hold a Master’s degree in Information, Network and Computer Security from the New York Institute of Technology, and I’m the co-founder of WebTodi, a platform built to help young people navigate the path into higher education and opportunity.
WHO THIS IS FOR
Mostly people just past the beginning.
Secondary school leavers and university students moving toward a future in tech. Most of the people I’ve mentored are eighteen or older. In every case so far, it started with a parent reaching out on their child’s behalf, or the student reaching out directly. Either way is welcome.
WHAT WE COVER
Whichever part of this is where you’re stuck.
-
Breaking into tech
Choosing a direction: design, development, or product, without losing years to guessing.
-
Building real work
A portfolio and real projects, the kind that get you hired or win you clients.
-
Freelancing and small agencies
Finding clients, pricing your work, and delivering it well.
-
Higher education abroad
Applications, positioning, and what actually matters versus what doesn’t.
-
Career switching
Changing direction and building a name people recognize.
WHAT A SESSION LOOKS LIKE
A plan, not encouragement.
A focused conversation about where you are and where you want to get to, followed by a practical plan. If you bring work, a portfolio, an application, a project, I’ll give you honest feedback on it.
Sessions run thirty to sixty minutes over video call, one off or ongoing, whichever fits what you need.
WHY I DO THIS
The guidance I didn’t have.
The advice I give one student at a time is the advice I didn’t get at their age. That’s part of why I’m building WebTodi, a platform meant to do at scale what I do here one conversation at a time: make sure the path into higher education and tech isn’t a matter of luck, or who you happen to know.
WHAT MENTEES SAY
In their words.
